I would suggest this news might represent an ominous
bellwether of measurable import to all of us who are hoping to see President
Trump elected to a second term.
In politics, 2020 is but a blink away, and who will be
anointed by the Democrats to challenge President Trump is being decided right
now. And I promise you, they are considering Michelle Obama a possibility.
Back in May 2016, I published an op-ed entitled: Overlooking the
Obvious, if Hillary is Indicted? In that editorial, I attempted
to alert people in the late spring of that election year to the possibility
that —in the event Hillary Clinton was indicted for the felonies she
committed in connection with her infamous private email server — Michelle Obama stood an excellent
chance of becoming the candidate who would be chosen by the DNC to replace
Hillary at their National Convention in July.
In
pertinent part, I argued:
“From a progressive point of view, Michelle is a popular,
educated, black, liberal female. Translation? She is most probably more
appealing to almost all significantly relevant demographic groups than either
Biden or Kerry could ever hope to be. Demographics that could foreseeably unite
Hillary’s supporters with Bernie’s and, perhaps even lure some “crossovers”
back from Trump. As such, would she not provide a clearer path by which her
presently fractured party could effectively unite and ultimately defeat Trump?
Probably.
“Additionally, Michelle’s anointing would also present
significant personal benefits to the Obamas. At minimum, Michelle would present
the best of all options for the President [Obama] to protect, if not guarantee,
the continuation of his legacy. Surely, if elected, would she not foreseeably
continue unabated the advancement of much, if not most, of his present
Administration’s liberal Supreme Court, immigration, LGBT, pro-choice and
anti-Israel agendas? Almost certainly.”
Of course, none of this transpired in 2016, and for that, I
was as glad as I was made later by Hillary’s defeat.
That does not mean that Michelle’s candidacy for the
presidency should be dismissed as impossible today, however.
The reality is that those same reasons given in 2016 as to
why the Democrats might find her nomination ideal remain as valid today as they
were back then, if not more so.
And all that is before one considers the considerable support
her candidacy could receive today from:
1.The
many people in this country who so single-mindedly desire to see a female
elected president in their lifetime regardless of
her aptitude or qualifications;
2.The
mainstream media that is already wholeheartedly committed to endorsing and
promoting anyone who
could possibly defeat the current president they so passionately hate; and,
needless to say,
3. All those from the first Obama presidency who may have a vested
interest in finding some way to forestall the unsealing of rumored indictments
for little things like treason and other related felonies.
The indisputability of these facts should, at at the very
least, give the president and his supporters cause to keep a close watch on
Michelle’s present public activities.
Only last summer the former FLOTUS was busy enlisting some of
her anti-Trump, celebrity friends — including “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel
Miranda, singers Janelle Monáe and Faith Hill, and actor Tom Hanks — to
help her launch a supposedly “nonpartisan”
voter-registration campaign called When We All Vote .
Then, only a few months later, just last November, she
published her new book, Becoming ,
in coordination with a nation-wide “promotion” campaign that, from all
appearances, is exceeding in terms of scope and ambition even that of Hillary’s
2016 presidential campaign.
Managed by the same
company that promotes Beyoncé’s concert tours , the ten stops of the first leg of her
national tour in November and December of 2018 were at arenas with seating capacities hovering around
20,000, not only in Washington, D.C., but also in states like New York,
Massachusetts, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Tennessee, Illinois,
California, and Georgia.
And then, to begin this New Year, a few days ago she
announced that 14 additional speaking engagements have now been scheduled — so
far — to allow even more sell-out crowds to attend her “A Conversation with
Michelle Obama” tour in similarly huge venues located this time around in
Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin,Ohio, and Florida.
If they haven’t done so already, both the president and the
RNC might want to compare these “whistle stops” now being made by Michelle to
“promote” her book to the following list of the top 10 “key” electoral vote
states in 2020: California (45); Texas (38); New York (29); Florida (29);
Illinois (20); Pennsylvania (20); Ohio (18); Michigan (16); Georgia (16); North
Carolina (15).
Mere coincidence? Perhaps. But, then again, maybe not.
Either way, what can’t be denied is the fact that these
events promoting Michelle — or should I say, her “book” — bear an uncanny
resemblance in size and geographic scope to the “MAGA Rallies” of 2016 that
helped get President Trump elected.
And the
single most important fact that might distinguish their rallies is one that may
not bode well for the president.
To attend Michelle’s “book signing” events, she is finding
herself able to charge those who want to attend as much as $597.00 to $1,435
per ticket!
Unless her new book is really that good
— which is doubtful — the question this fact should put before the president is
this: If he were to charge his supporters such ticket prices, would he be able
to fill stadiums next year, like he did in 2016?
If not, he really should be taking a long hard look at
Michelle Obama… starting right now.
Disregard the fact that Michelle has said on numerous
occasions that she doesn’t like politics, and has no intention of running for
president. In politics, a more accurate reading of a person’s intentions is
better often obtained by looking at what they are doing ,
rather than what they may be saying while they are doing it.
And from that perspective, Michelle’s presently scheduled
activities strongly suggest the behavior of a person plotting to place herself
in the position of becoming the left’s “reluctant
hero ” in 2020. The only demographically-qualified Democrat who — if they
absolutely beg her to do it — is able to rise to the occasion, respond to the
pleas of her Party, and save them all from having to endure another four years
of President Trump.
But whether she is reluctant or not, make no mistake about
it. Her potential candidacy, when viewed through the prism of her present,
successful endeavors, has all the earmarks of one that could propel her toward
having an impact upon Trump’s presidency in 2020 with a force similar to that
of a locomotive charging at full throttle that is followed close behind by a
tsunami of support.
And to stop it, President Trump may very well need … a WALL!

BARACK OBAMA’S CONSPIRACY FOR A THIRD TERM FOR LIFE
First, destroy Trump and put Hillary away if she doesn’t end up in
jail.
HE PARTNERS WITH ZUCKERBERG, SOROS AND LOUIS FARRAKHAN
“Obama would declare himself president for life with Soros
really running the show, as he did for the entire Obama presidency.”
“Hillary was always
small potatoes, a placeholder as it were. Her health was always suspect. And do
you think the plotters would have let a doofus like Tim Kaine take office in
the event that Hillary became disabled?”
“Obama has the totalitarian
impulse. After all, he went around saying he didn't have Constitutional
authority to legalize the illegals, and then he tried anyway. The courts
stopped him.”
“The bottom line 2 is
this: Barack Obama is a Communist. This was all an Obama operation. Why is
anyone surprised that a communist (Obama) tried to subvert an election. That is
what Communists do. It is Barack Obama and his people like Brennan and Clapper behaving
to type. That's what Maduro does in Venezuela. That's what the Castro brothers
did. That's what every communist and socialist nation does. THEY FIX ELECTIONS!!”
“ Hillary
kept a secret server overflowing with national security info which, more than
likely, was hacked. June 28, 2016, on a Phoenix tarmac, Bill Clinton met with
Attorney General Loretta Lynch to seal a deal insuring Hillary would not be
prosecuted.”
“ Obama, of course, covered
up his own role, depicting his presidency as eight years of heroic
efforts to repair the damage caused by the 2008 financial crash. At
the end of those eight years, however, Wall Street and the financial
oligarchy were fully recovered, enjoying record wealth, while
working people were poorer than before, a widening social chasm that
made possible the election of the billionaire con man and Demagogue in November
2016.”

The Results of Obama's Presidency Still Don't Matter to Journalists
I read frequently what a good or even great a president Barack Obama was, and how his administration was virtually free of scandals. We also frequently hear how bad a President Trump is and how corrupt he is.
Somehow when journalists and others spew forth with these generalities, I never see the examples of what makes Obama good or great, and what makes Trump so bad. So, I thought it would be good to fill in some of the blanks, because results should be what makes a President good or bad. (Of course, Obama got a Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing other than giving a speech, so he has been idolized for a long time for a blank slate).
In 2008 Terrorism deaths Worldwide were 15,708. In 2009 they were 15,310. By the last three years of Obama’s Presidency, terrorism deaths had risen to 32,763, 29424 and 25,722. The first two years of Trump’s presidency are back down to below 19,000. It is no surprise that terrorism deaths rose when Obama called ISIS the JV team and drew a fatuous red line in Syria, did everything he could to build up the terrorist-sponsoring Iran, and even stopped a U.S investigation into drug running by the terrorist Hezb’allah organization. Thank goodness we now have Trump instead of Hillary who even said, “What difference does it make?” when people died in Benghazi, and who was so lawless with classified information.
Terror-related deaths have fallen for the third consecutive year around the globe,
After peaking at about 34,000 deaths in 2014, terrorism-related deaths fell by 44 percent last year to 18,800,
Military defeats of the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, in Iraq and Syria and the Nigerian government “breaking the back” of Boko Haram are the main reasons for the drop in deaths related to terrorism, Killelea said. Afghanistan recorded the highest number of terror-related deaths among all countries.
Overall, deaths at the hands of the Islamic State dropped by 52 percent in 2017, according to the report. Killelea predicted that the group will no longer rank as the deadliest terrorist organization in 2018.
President Obama strengthened tyrants in China, Cuba, Iran and Russia throughout his eight-year presidency. He did little to stop North Korea. Trump, in contrast, is weakening the economies of tyrants throughout the World with sanctions, tariffs, getting out of the Iran deal and increasing oil production. He appears to have scared North Korea into stopping the threatening of its neighbors.
Tillerson and Kelly said they had to keep Trump from breaking laws, but they never accused him of breaking actual laws. Obama and those he surrounded himself with didn't care. Sanctuary cities and states and DACA are just two examples.
The Obama administration illegally spied on thousands of Americans, including political opponents. The Obama administration also illegally unmasked names of people surrounding Trump. We have seen nothing similar under Trump.
Obama’s policies gave us the slowest economic recovery in seventy years despite almost zero interest rates, massive federal injection of funds, substantial government spending increases and an increase of around $10 trillion in debt. Trump has given us the fastest annual growth since 2005. Obama gave us the lowest labor participation rate in forty years. Trump has brought the unemployment for all races, all education levels and all sexes to record lows.
Obama rewarded political bundlers with jobs and contracts. Trump has given almost 100% of U.S. taxpayers and businesses more money to improve the economy, whether they donated to him or supported him or not. Elizabeth Warren and others say, without evidence, that Trump’s policies only benefit the rich. What a crock. It appears that almost the only people that may pay more taxes are higher income people from high tax states that may lose some deductions. It is the Democrats who are trying to protect those rich people, not Trump. Democrats are also the ones that push the $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicles where almost all the credits go to wealthier people who pretend they care about the environment while they virtue-signal their neighbors.
Obama used the EPA, CFPB and Justice Department to blackmail companies and set up slush funds for political purposes and to reward supporters. The slush funds are gone after Trump was elected.
Obama took away freedom of choice on health care and premiums, and out of pocket expenses rose rapidly. Trump has given freedom of choice back and all of a sudden, prices are stabilizing in 2019. It must be a coincidence. Obama also illegally diverted funds, without going through the cumbersome legislative process, when Obamacare was coming up short. It also was Democrats who diverted Medicare funds to Obamacare, not Trump or Republicans.
Obama also violated freedom of speech rights of political opponents through IRS. He weaponized the Justice Department to protect people who violated laws who worked for him, while they were used to target Trump and those who surrounded him. Yet journalists overwhelmingly continue the fiction that no one was above the law during Obama’s eight years and that the Justice Department treats all of us equally.
A fictional Russian collusion narrative perpetuated by a fraudulent dossier created out of thin air and paid for by Hillary and the DNC is not about Trump corruption. The clear case of corruption resides with the Obama Administration colluding with the DNC and Hillary to elect Hillary and destroy Trump. The complicit media is a co-conspirator for perpetuating the fraud.
It is also not a campaign finance violation to use personal money to pay off blackmailing porn stars and Playboy bunnies. It should be a campaign finance violation to steal taxpayer money to hide scandals of members of Congress. If Pelosi actually wants transparency, she will release the names of all cases where taxpayer money was used to protect incumbents.
The egotistical, narcissistic Obama said he would stop sea levels from rising when he became President but he couldn’t even keep his promise to let people keep their Doctor, Plan and lower premiums.
I honestly can’t think of anything Obama did domestically or relating to foreign policy that made the U.S. or World safer and stronger. I wish these people that say that Obama was good or great would come up with a list of policies that were meant to make the U.S. as a whole better -- private sector. Obama came into office saying he wanted to remake America. I believe that is true. He wanted to remake America to weaken its power throughout the world and to make the government stronger and make more people dependent on it. Those are lousy goals.

“Of course, one of the main reasons the nation is now “divided,

years. Romney himself is personally to blame for Obama’s second term.

out-the-vote effort the 44 th president’s time in office could have
been cut short. ” MATTHEW VADUM
January 3, 2019
With a singularly impressive record of failure in public life under his belt, the always-predictable virtue-signaler Willard Mitt Romney has chosen to take the low road, beginning his freshman term in the United States Senate by stabbing President Trump and his fellow Republicans in the back.
Instead of, say, waiting a brief time to get settled into his new office as Utah senator, the former Massachusetts governor, who to this day refuses to apologize for his Bay State government healthcare program that inspired Obamacare, took to the pages of the Washington Post two days before his swearing-in to attack the “character” of someone who as president has been generous, forgiving, and supportive of him.
In his Jeff Bezos-approved column, Romney embraced the leftist critique of Trump, hurling every leftist smear he could think of and bashing the president for his mastery of social media, a field Romney barely grasps.
As senator, Romney vowed to “support policies that I believe are in the best interest of the country and my state, and oppose those that are not. I do not intend to comment on every tweet or fault. But I will speak out against significant statements or actions that are divisive, racist, sexist, anti-immigrant, dishonest or destructive to democratic institutions.”
Joel B. Pollak of Breitbart News provided a helpful timeline of the flip-flopping unsuccessful 2012 presidential candidate’s love-hate relationship with Trump in recent years on Twitter:
@MittRomney's "character":
2012: Seeks @realDonaldTrump's endorsement, gets it.
2016 (Mar.): Trashes Trump.
2016 (Nov.): Crawls to Trump, asks to be [Secretary] of State.
2018: Seeks Trump's backing for Senate, gets it.
2019: Trashes Trump in @washingtonpost.
Firmly aligning himself with lawless, out-of-control Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Trump’s other enemies, the ungrateful Romney echoed the complaints of the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and the Weekly Standard crowd, calling the president a liar and a coward.
To a great degree, a presidency shapes the public character of the nation. A president should unite us and inspire us to follow “our better angels.” A president should demonstrate the essential qualities of honesty and integrity, and elevate the national discourse with comity and mutual respect. As a nation, we have been blessed with presidents who have called on the greatness of the American spirit. With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indispensable. And it is in this province where the incumbent’s shortfall has been most glaring.
Of course, one of the main reasons the nation is now “divided, resentful and angry” is because race-baiting, Islamist, class warrior Barack Hussein Obama was president for eight long years. Romney himself is personally to blame for Obama’s second term. Maybe if Romney had bothered to prepare for his final two presidential debates with Obama or put together a competent get-out-the-vote effort the 44th president’s time in office could have been cut short.
But Romney didn’t bother to fight back against Obama and allowed himself to be run over again and again by a street thug-loving community organizer from Chicagoland who never ran an honest campaign in his life.
Trump may not be perfect, but unlike Romney, the 45th president is a fighter who gets things done. Trump got historic tax cuts enacted, placed two new conservative justices on the Supreme Court, slashed government regulations, moved the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, renegotiated NAFTA, and repealed the individual mandate in Obamacare. The wall on the U.S.-Mexico border may not yet be underway, but it is obvious that a squishified President Romney never would have been brave enough to force a government shutdown to win funding to guarantee border security.
To keep his Deep State friends happy, Romney characterized Trump honoring his campaign promise to withdraw troops from Syria and Afghanistan as a betrayal of America’s allies, calling it “the abandonment of allies who fight beside us[.]” Romney slammed Trump for the departure of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, even though Mattis was infamous his dove-like posture on the mad mullahs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Romney wrote that these foreign policy-related developments, including Trump’s 100-percent accurate claim “that America has long been a ‘sucker’ in world affairs,” have all somehow “defined his presidency down.”
Then there is Romney’s breathtakingly imbecilic reading of world affairs under Trump.
“America has long been looked to for leadership,” Romney wrote.
Our economic and military strength was part of that, of course, but our enduring commitment to principled conduct in foreign relations, and to the rights of all people to freedom and equal justice, was even more esteemed. Trump’s words and actions have caused dismay around the world. In a 2016 Pew Research Center poll, 84 percent of people in Germany, Britain, France, Canada and Sweden believed the American president would “do the right thing in world affairs.” One year later, that number had fallen to 16 percent.
Romney seems to forget here that Donald Trump is not the president of Europe. How he polls in Europe is completely irrelevant to Americans.
Besides, Trump’s popularity in Europe has experienced an upswing in recent months. Trump’s name is chanted at yellow-jacket rallies in now pre-revolutionary France and at public gatherings throughout the European continent. Trumpism, for lack of a better term, is on the march worldwide, including in Brazil where Trump wannabe Jair Bolsonaro was just sworn in as that nation’s president.
Romney mocked Trump’s “Make America Great Again” agenda, making it clear he puts the interests of other nations ahead of the United States.
“America is strongest when our arms are linked with other nations. We want a unified and strong Europe, not a disintegrating union. We want stable relationships with the nations of Asia that strengthen our mutual security and prosperity.”
It is this kind of RINO wailing and sabotage that we can look forward to on a daily basis with Mitt Romney’s arrival in the Senate.
If Donald Trump loses his reelection bid in 2020, Romney will share some of the blame.
The United States at the Point of No Return
There
is an unquestioned disconnect between the vast majority of the American people
and the so-called elites or ruling class. Whenever I am in the company of
those that are members of this exclusive fraternity, and when the conversation
inevitably turns to the subject of the irascible mood of the electorate, I
offer what I consider to be a valid theory as to one of the primary reasons
why. That is: a plurality of the populace, myself included, firmly
believe the United States is approaching the point of no return to its founding
as a nation of individual freedom and opportunity, and that the 2016 election
is the most significant in 150 years insofar as determining the long term fate
of the country.
More
often than not these acquaintances react as if Chicken Little had just escaped
the asylum and was running amok claiming the sky is falling.
However, in an effort to be kind to the loon in their midst, I have been
told, as a figurative pat on the head, because of my personal background as
displaced war orphan from World War II that I am hypersensitive and what is
going on in America really isn’t as bad as I claim.
Not
as bad as I claim?
Not
since the presidential election of 1932 has the American electorate been so
mired in discontent. Despite the best efforts of the media to portray
this discontentment as limited to the Republican base, a variety of polls have
confirmed a vast majority of the populace shares this same sense of
disgruntlement. Innumerable polls taken over the past seven years are
consistent in showing nearly 7 in 10 Americans believing the nation is headed
in the wrong direction.
Further,
nearly 60% think that the next generation will be worse
off than
they are. And few have any faith that the economic outlook for the country will
improve in the near or distant future.
Beginning
in the late 1980’s, the cognoscenti declared that expansive government
spending, globalization and free trade, combined with a comprehensive and
overarching regulatory regime determined to root out so-called corruption and
inequality as well as save the planet from the over blown evils of global
warming, would be the course the nation should pursue. The result of this
foolhardy and myopic scheme:
1.
In 1988 the national debt of the United States stood at $2.6
Trillion, today it is over $19.0 Trillion-- an increase of 635% (and projected
to reach $29.0 Trillion by 2026). On the other hand the debt of all the
nations on earth has grown by only 135% since 1988.
2.
Since November of 2008 the working age population has increased by
over 18 million. However, the number of those employed has increased just 5.5
million. Meanwhile those unemployed or no longer in the work force has
ballooned by 12.4 million to a staggering total of 102 million or 40.4% of the working
age population .
3.
Another factor impacting on the economic health of the American
people is immigration. In 1988 there were 16 million immigrants
(including less than a million illegal aliens) living in the United
States. Today that number has skyrocketed to 42.4 million (including an
estimated 12 million illegal aliens). This enormous increase (165%) in
the immigrant population has not only put pressure on a stagnant job market but
it has also been a major factor in the decline of median income in the country.
4.
The upshot of all the above is that since 1988 the income of the
top 5% has risen 39.3% (adjusted for inflation) and the income of the bottom
50% has fallen by 1.9% .
5.
Since 2008 the Obama cabal has added over 18,000 pages to the Code of Federal
Regulations. It is estimated that complying with federal regulations costs the
economy nearly $2 Trillion per year and is, along with taxes and innumerable
mandates, one of the principle reasons for the lack of new business start-ups
and loss of jobs to other countries.
One
of the primary hallmarks of the United States had been that of a classless
society wherein economic factors allowed the citizenry to take advantage of the
marketplace in order to move up or down based on their efforts and willingness
to work. However, this scenario is disappearing as the opportunities for
upward mobility cease to exist. In its place a class driven society,
similar to all other quasi-socialist nations past and present, is now becoming
inevitable as even the Bureau of Labor Statistics admits that the level of
Americans working and in the labor force will continue
to decrease over the next 8 years.
Another
of the primary factors in the decline of the United States is that the nation’s
elites, rather than view education as the means for the people to attain
success in a competitive world, have recast it into a vehicle for their pet
theories and political views. Whether it is the promulgation of faux
self-esteem, the obsession with the so-called evils of capitalism and the
nation’s past, and the theoretical joys of socialism among other inane
curricula, the education establishment has assured that the American people are
rapidly becoming among the least well-educated populations in the world.
In
2013 American 15
year olds ranked 32nd among industrialized countries in math, 20th in
reading and 24th in science. In 1988 this same age group
ranked among the top 5-10 nations in the world in these same categories.
Further, recent polls have indicated that as a byproduct of the radicalized
education establishment, nearly
7 out of 10 between the ages of 18 and 29 would vote for an avowed
socialist. Thus it is clear that the future of the country is on very shaky
ground.
As
for the issue of freedom: in a recent analysis it was determined that the
United States now ranks 12th among the nations of the world in
economic freedom (6th in 2008) but a dismal 31st in
personal freedom (17th in 2008). The authors of the study
commented:
The
decline reflects the long-term drop in every category of economic freedom and
its rule of law indicators. The US performance is worrisome and shows that the
US can no longer claim to be the leading bastion of liberty in the world.
In addition to the expansion of the regulatory state and drop in economic
freedom, the war on terror, the war on drugs and the erosion of property rights
due to a greater use of eminent domain all likely contributed to the US
decline.
Using
the cudgel of the mainstream media, the entertainment complex and the education
establishment, the Left and its surrogate, the Democratic Party, have
successfully inculcated into a plurality of the American people a belief that
there are no moral absolutes and that the state can grant any rights that it so
chooses to whomever it chooses. Further, the nation’s founding documents
are arcane, racially insensitive, and unsuitable for today. Thus religious
liberty, property rights and freedom of speech are under aggressive
assault. The Judiciary is now almost under the complete control of these
same statists, and with the death of Justice Scalia the last line of defense,
the Supreme Court, is in peril.
The
vast majority of the American people sense that the future of the nation and
that of their progeny is in serious jeopardy. However, one of the most
troubling aspects of the current unease and angst among the general public is
what this portends: when anger and frustration evolve into deep seated passion,
reason is too often a casualty. As Thomas Sowell recently wrote:
Too
many nations, in desperate times, especially after the authorities have
discredited themselves and forfeited the trust of the people, have turned to
some new and charismatic leader, who ended up turning a dire situation into an
utter catastrophe,
This
has been true throughout history whether in England in the 1650’s, France in
the 1790’s, or Russia, Italy and Germany in the 20th century.
In
the current campaign for the next president, there are candidates attempting to
tap into the ire of the citizenry by either promising that a purer form of
socialism will magically solve the problems or by claiming that they, by sheer
force of their will and personality, will part the seas and save the
nation. Unfortunately, due to the ill-education of the populace as well
as their angst, far too many seeds of this demagoguery are falling on fertile
ground. The election of any of these candidates will only exacerbate and
make permanent the nations woes.
So
to my ruling class friends safely ensconced in Washington, New York and other
enclaves among the like-minded and wealthy, this nation is at the point of no
return to the country of freedom and opportunity that allowed you to be where
you are. The folks in fly-over country know it and so should you.

An old joke I heard during my brief time in the opera
business went something like this: There are four types of tenors: leggiero, lyric,
spinto, and heldentenor. The leggiero tenor has no balls. The lyric tenor has
one ball. The spinto tenor has two...
The main objective of
“political animals” like Obama and the Clintons is to get elected; it’s not to
fix a broken America, nor to protect her. There are people who govern and there
are people who campaign; Obama and the Clintons are the latter. Just look at
the huge Republican electoral gains under Obama and the Clintons. It’s amazing
that Democrats who still care about their party still support the very people
who have brought it down.
More 'legacy lies' from
outgoing Obama on economy
Here is what President
Obama said on the Ellen show on Abe Lincoln's birthday:
Since I came into office,
we reduced the deficit by two-thirds, but if you ask the average person,
they're sure that spending has shot up. And the reason is because there are a
bunch of folks who say that we're wildly overspending, even though we aren't.
Here are some actual
numbers: in FY 2007, the last year President Bush and Republicans had 100%
control of Congress, federal spending including both wars was $2.7 trillion.
The budget President Obama just submitted is $4.1 trillion. That is
up over 50% despite record-low interest rates and his continually bragging that
he has ended the wars. Median family income around the country is
actually down or flat, so I do not understand how the president could pretend
that they aren't overspending and taxing.
The deficit
was down to $161 billion in FY 2007, including the spending on the wars and
because of President Bush's across-the-board tax cuts in the summer of 2003.
In FY 2003, federal income tax receipts had decreased to around $900
billion prior to the tax cuts, due to a recession and a collapsed stock market.
By FY 2007, due to the stimulus of the tax cuts, the economy rebounded,
economic growth was substantial, unemployment was way down (not because of a
lower labor participation rate), and income tax receipts had climbed to over
$1.5 trillion. The tax rate cuts did not cause receipts to go down, as
Democrats and CBO had projected; they actually skyrocketed by over 60%.
The tax cuts obviously did not cause the deficit.
The
projected deficit for FY 2016 is projected to be over $500 billion. Think
how high it would be if the Federal Reserve weren't keeping the interest rates
artificially low.
Despite the
record-low interest rates and massive increases in federal spending, economic
growth has been some of the slowest on record after a recession.
Keynesian economics is obviously not that stimulating.
The
president also continually says that his policies brought us out
of the great recession. The recession actually ended by June 2009,
four months and ten days after he took office. This is obviously before
any of his policies could have had any effect.
On February
10, in Springfield, Illinois, he gave a speech where he said his opponents are
not entitled to their own facts. It would be nice if he paid attention to
that lecture, and it would be great if the media would call him out on his many
false statements.

Michelle Obama's "Becoming" explains it all for you.
November
27, 2018
T he United States is smothered in a “ veil of
impossibility,” and
“only one person will snatch that veil of impossibility off their heads.” That
was a fired-up Michelle Obama back in 2008, but in her new book Becoming , the former First Lady shows it was possible to advance long
before her husband came on the scene.
Her father Fraser Robinson worked for the city of Chicago in a
water filtration plant. He provided the family with a middle-class lifestyle
and drove a Buick Electra 225, a luxury car known as a “deuce and a quarter.”
Michelle attended Whitney Young high school where “it was safe to be smart,”
and “you never hid your intelligence for fear of someone saying you talked like
a white girl.” Indeed, the author’s racial consciousness is on full display
here.
Families moved to the suburbs in search of “whiteness.” Washington
was “just a faraway city filled with a lot of white buildings and white men.”
The capitol “confused me with its decorous traditions and sober self-regard,
its whiteness and maleness.” And “people of color” jostle on every hand.
Becoming will be of
interest to the “presidential historians” who hold forth on PBS. General
readers get a sense of the First Family and their experience with in vitro
fertilization. The photo section features one picture of Michelle in a swimsuit
and her book is like a bikini. What it reveals is interesting but what it
conceals is crucial.
In 2008, Michelle recalls, Christopher Hitchens said of her senior college thesis , that “to describe it as hard to read would be a mistake; the
thesis cannot be ‘read’ at all, in the strict sense of the verb. This is
because it wasn’t written in any known language.” Michelle was fond of black
radicals like Stokely Carmichael but she wasn’t much of a writer.
On page 224 of Becoming readers
meet David Axelrod, who would “lead the messaging and media for Barack.”
Michelle fails to recall that the New
York Times dubbed Axelrod “Obama’s narrator” and his fingerprints are all over this account. Axelrod’s
2015 Believer betrays
the same elephantine style, and a lot more.
Axelrod left journalism because he liked to tell stories and he
describes Obama, who had no record of publication, as a fantastic writer with
the skill of an historical novelist. As Becoming explains,
the future president “sold his idea for a nonfiction book about race and
identity.” No word that in the 2017 Rising
Star: The Making of Barack Obama , official biographer David Garrow
proclaimed Dreams
from My Father to be “historical fiction” and the author a “composite character.”
Michelle writes that “he’d spent the first 20 years of his life
going by the nickname Barry,” but “somewhere along the way, though, he’d
stepped into the fullness of his birth name – Barack Hussein Obama.”
Michelle does not note that, in all his writings from 1958 to 1964, the Kenyan
Barack Obama mentions nothing about an American wife and Hawaiian-born son.
Dreams from My Father devoted
more than 2,000 words to the beloved “Frank,” whom the author identified as
Frank Marshall Davis. Becoming does
not mention Frank, so Michelle missed an opportunity to explain the devotion of
a black American to all-white Communist dictatorships.
Becoming portrays the future
president as an “exceptional” and “gifted” student who “worshipped books.” At
Columbia he “consumed volumes of political philosophy as if it were beach
reading” and “spent all his spare change on books.” Michelle managed to marry
an “out-of-the-box thinker” who “steered himself with a certainty I found
astounding.”
On page 148 readers meet Valerie Jarrett, deputy chief of staff to
Chicago mayor Harold Washington. Valerie spent her childhood in her Iran,
“where her father had been a doctor at a hospital.” Michelle does not divulge
that Valerie’s father, James Bowman, and her father-in-law Vernon Jarrett
were both Communists and associates of Frank Marshall Davis.
“Valerie was the right person to address any concerns,” Michelle
writes. “Valerie was like a fast-moving comet and clearly going places.”
Jarrett went on to great power in the White House , a de-facto First Lady on policy issues. Michelle styles herself
a “first mom” but she does pronounce on her husband’s record and controversies.
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright “was known as a sensational preacher with
a passion for social justice.” In his fiery sermons, Wright showed “callous and
inappropriate fits of rage and resentment of white America.” No word about
Wright’s pal Louis Farrakhan or the photo of her husband with the Nation of Islam boss. And the dutiful Michelle
never links Islam with terrorism. As she explains, Nigerian girls were
“kidnapped by the extremist group Boko Haram.”
Michelle’s husband was “the right person for this moment in
history.” Republicans fought “every effort to stanch the economic crisis,
refusing to support measures that would cut taxes and save or create millions
of jobs.” Hillary Clinton was the designated successor and Michelle “will
always wonder about what led so many women, in particular, to reject an
exceptionally qualified female candidate and instead choose a misogynist as
their president.”
Readers might wonder what Michelle is “becoming” now. The author
claims, “I have no intention of running for office, ever,” but even if she
likes that plan she might not keep it.
At this moment in history, Michelle may tear away that veil of
impossibility and enter the race for 2020.
